Two numbers settle almost every AI business case, and neither is the price of the software. The first is volume: a saving of twenty minutes is worth nothing on a task done twice a month and a great deal on one done fifty times a day. The second is what happens to the time that is freed — because an hour saved and then spent waiting is an hour nobody paid for.
Break-even volume tells you whether the process is even a candidate. If you do not run enough tasks a month to clear the subscription, no amount of prompt engineering fixes that.
Employer taxes, benefits and overheads usually add a third or more to take-home pay. Costing an hour at the salary alone quietly understates every saving on the page.
Almost no AI output ships unchecked. The honest "hours saved" figure is what is left after someone has read the result, not the time the model took to produce it.
